Trust Me, It’s a Forward! | Strategy Game

How do we decide what to trust when information is constantly moving around us? Trust Me, It’s a Forward! is a tabletop role-playing game about digital mis/disinformation, developed in 2023–24. Instead of simply asking players to identify what is true or false, the game puts them inside an information environment where trust can be built and broken, doubt can enter the picture, and choices have consequences.

In this presentation, Karen explores the thinking behind the making of the game and the questions that shaped it. What happens when we do not simply read, scroll past, or fact-check mis/disinformation, but step into it and play with it? What might play allow us to notice that an article or fact-check cannot? And what can a fantastical yet familiar dystopia reveal about the ways we make choices and relate to people we may never have met?

The session also looks at the conversations and unexpected reflections that emerged through the process of creating the game. At its heart is a question about how we can create spaces to think, question, and challenge the information environments we inhabit and make sense of them together.
