The Invisible Thread: Fungi, the Intelligence of Nature and the Making of Reality

From deception in a termite nursery to the dying stars, from ancient forests to the intricate workings of the human mind, an invisible thread weaves its way through the story of life. Fungi are among its most extraordinary storytellers: tricksters, partners, recyclers, and transformers that quietly shape ecosystems, food, medicine, culture, and even our perception of reality.

At this MOG Sundays, Dr. Biswas, PhD, MBA, takes us into the remarkable world of fungi, exploring their ecological significance, their potential in sustainable materials and medicinal innovation, and their role in some of the most intriguing questions emerging at the intersection of biology and neuroscience. From the vast mycelial networks beneath our feet to research into psychedelic mushrooms and their effects on the brain, the conversation opens up a larger question: where does one thing really end and another begin?

A scientist and strategist working at the intersection of biology, sustainability and translational innovation, Dr. Biswas leads Research and Development at The Fungamentalists LLP, focusing on mycology, medicinal mushrooms, functional bioactives and sustainable mushroom-derived materials. His experience spans Antarctic ecosystems, Mars-simulation research in Europe, personalised medicine and biodiversity-driven research in India.

The conversation continues beyond the lecture with a tasting of mushroom-based bites and specially crafted drinks featuring functional mushroom extracts, in collaboration with Desmondji’s Agave, offering a sensory introduction to the possibilities of fungi in food and contemporary innovation.

Join us for a morning that brings science, ecology, and consciousness into conversation, revealing how much of the world around us, and within us, is connected by threads we are only beginning to understand.
