Rivers Alive!

We begin with Siddhesh Kadam, multidisciplinary design consultant, presenting his research on the Mange Thapni installation and the significance of the correlations between indigenous traditions and ecology in Goa. This is followed by Advocate Aurobindo Gomes Pereira, Advocate and Member of the Goan Philosophical Society, who explores rivers as living entities and the question of their legal protection as composite ‘natural living entities’ with juristic personality. Bookworm then reflects on its ongoing work with rivers, communities and libraries through the Nhoi Collective, exploring how libraries can become spaces to document, share and engage with local ecological knowledge. We conclude with Claude Alvares, who situates these conversations within the wider ecological, social and political contexts of Goa’s rivers.This session is presented as an extension of the 4th Chapter of Fish Curry & Rice.
