Topic: Where Salt Meets Sweet | Fish Curry & Rice
The fifth chapter of the Goa Foundation’s Fish Curry & Rice series looks at mangroves and the relationships they hold between land, water, people, and other forms of life. Claude Alvares and Aaron Lobo will discuss the ecological and social importance of these interconnected ecosystems, and what is at stake when Goa’s rivers, wetlands, and coastal landscapes are altered or lost.

Topic: Goa’s First Constitution? 500 Years of the Foral of 1526
Five hundred years ago, on 16 September 1526, the Foral of Afonso Mexia brought Goa’s governance into the framework of the Portuguese Crown. The Foral addressed land, taxation, inheritance, revenue, and the rights of the gaunkars (gãocars), shaping what would later develop into the Comunidade system. Join Prof. Sushila Sawant Mendes and Prof. Remy Dias with Rev. Dr. Jason Keith Fernandes for a conversation around the recently published translation of the Foral, The First Constitution of Goa: The Foral of 1526, a new commemorative edition marking its 500th year.
