MOG Sundays | November 2026
This November, MOG Sundays brings together conversations on fungi, food and self-reliance, the heritage of Daman, and ecological restoration. Across these sessions, we explore the relationships between people and the natural and cultural worlds around them, from the interconnectedness of living systems to the histories, practices and choices that shape our shared futures.

Topic: The Invisible Thread: Fungi, the Intelligence of Nature and the Making of Reality
Dr. Biswas takes us into the world of fungi, exploring their role in ecosystems, sustainable materials, medicine, and emerging research at the intersection of biology and neuroscience. Drawing on his work in mycology, biodiversity and medicinal innovation, the conversation will consider how fungi shape the world around us and challenge our understanding of the relationships between living systems. The session will be followed by a tasting of mushroom-based bites and specially crafted drinks featuring functional mushroom extracts, in collaboration with Desmondji’s Agave.
Speaker: Dr. Biswas

Topic: The Seeds of Self-Reliance | Fish Curry & Rice
The sixth chapter of the Goa Foundation’s Fish Curry & Rice series looks at agricultural practices and the future of food in Goa. Claude Alvares joins farmer Nestor Rangel and Yogita Mehra to discuss farming methods, local food production and the importance of reconnecting people with farm-grown produce. The conversation invites us to reflect on the relationship between what we grow, what we eat and the possibility of building a more self-reliant food system in Goa. Participants will also have an opportunity to take home farm produce and seeds from Nestor and Yogita’s farm, along with a copy of Fish Curry & Rice.
Speakers: Claude Alvares, Nestor Rangel, Yogita Mehra

Topic: Altars and Empires: The Forgotten Heritage of Daman
Daman’s architectural and cultural landscape reflects centuries of Portuguese rule, religious life and artistic exchange. Divided by the Damanganga River, its historic towns preserve fortified walls, churches, chapels and remnants of religious houses that remain relatively unfamiliar to wider audiences. Art conservator and heritage researcher Clive Figueiredo will explore these sites through their architecture, Christian art and material histories, while tracing the historical and cultural connections between Daman and Goa. The conversation offers an opportunity to look beyond familiar monuments and consider how these spaces preserve the histories of the communities that shaped them.

Topic: The Art of Letting Wild: Rewilding, Restoration and Our Place in Nature
This session begins with a screening of The Becoming of a Wildscape, a film about Elephants by the Lake, an ecological restoration project spread across approximately 80 acres in the Eastern Ghats. Through the film, directed by Tanmayi Gidh, we encounter the people and ideas behind the initiative and the questions that shape its approach to restoring a landscape. Following the screening, conservation biologist Siddharth Rao and filmmaker Tanmayi Gidh will discuss ecological restoration, rewilding and the importance of approaches that respond to local biodiversity and communities. The conversation will also consider how individuals and organisations can support meaningful, long-term restoration.
Speakers: Siddharth Rao, Tanmayi Gidh
