Fish Curry Rice: The Goan Recipe for Life
This MOG Sunday gathers around a book that has outlived trends, governments, and forgetting—a book that has watched Goa change, and refused to look away.
Fish Curry and Rice, edited by Claude Alvares, is Goa speaking for itself. First published in 1992 and now in its fifth edition, it carries over three decades of memory, ecology, and resistance within its pages.
This session unfolds in five movements. Claude Alvares opens by tracing the life of the book and why it continues to remain urgent today. Svabhu Kohli reflects on land, loss, and the fragile nature of belonging. Prashanti Talponkar presents a monologue that questions what it means to stay “green.” Bongisio brings music that connects soil with inheritance.
The session concludes with an open conversation, followed by book viewing and signing—inviting audiences to gather, reflect, and engage.
