Art Inc. | An Exhibition for Persons With Disabilities

What is art but a journey… wandering through fields of colour and contrast, passages of tone and texture; to make one’s way through points of interest, discovery, expression and reflection.

Art Inc. is a celebration of the journeys of each of its participating artists – each embarking on a quest of their own, travelling solo or with companions to find themselves and a community through art. All of us experience this journey in our own ways; we understand colour, light, and beauty through our own measures, without scale, without prompt. Art Inc. showcases a range of experiences, unique and unparalleled expressions of art amongst persons with disabilities.

As curator, I have had the honour to witness but a glimpse of these artists’ creative process. Along the way, I was introduced to a new perspective of interpreting the artistic process too. For instance, I learnt how colours could be ‘felt’ even if one cannot see them.

Imagination and vibrancy, energy and beauty resonate across artworks that are as diverse as their makers. Figurative and abstract, land and sea, nature and urban scapes, portraits and still life, focused dot making and intuitive strokes and splotches of colour – there is plenty to enjoy and experience with our leading artists as well as our aspiring artists, the latter discovering their creative voice and chosen mode of expression as they travel.
