Uday Shanbhag is an Indian contemporary artist born in Sirsi, Karnataka, and currently based in Mumbai. His practice is centered on painting and explores themes of memory, displacement, and identity through layered and evocative visual narratives.

Shanbhag completed a Post Diploma in Creative Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda, in 1998. His notable solo exhibitions include Mind the Gap at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2009); Great Indian Rope Magic at De Nederlandsche Bank, Amsterdam (2006); Deportation: Class Paintings at Gallery Schröder, The Hague (2003); Recent Works at Reinier van Ewijk Projects, Amsterdam (2002); and Inbetween and Some Paintings with Disturbing Backgrounds at De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2001). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including SEZ Who? at Experimenter, Kolkata (2009) and Dialogues in Painting at De Overslag, Eindhoven (2005–2006).

Shanbhag’s work has been featured in notable catalogues such as Dialogues in Painting (2005) and Blue Tuesdays: De Ateliers 1963–2003 (2004).Uday Shanbhag presented his work in the exhibition “Posthumous Dialogues with Francis Newton Souza.”
