Narendra Yadav
Artist
Brief info
Narendra Yadav, born in 1964 in Ratnagiri, India, is a contemporary artist based in Mumbai, working across sculpture, video, and installation. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Art from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1987.
Yadav’s practice is centered on the concept of human conditioning, engaging with themes of faith, ethics, memory, and the nature of existence. Drawing inspiration from Ivan Petrovich Pavlov’s theories of classical conditioning, his works often employ satire and subtle humor to encourage viewers to reconsider the obvious in unexpected ways. His sculptures and installations are frequently kinetic and experiential, creating shifting perspectives that transform the viewer’s initial perception of the object while reflecting the inevitable passage of time.
His debut solo exhibition, Labour Installations (2006), featured innovative works made from materials such as wood and fiberglass. A notable piece from the exhibition, Stress Release Toys for Instant Justice, depicted a statue toppling from a podium through a simple lever mechanism, exemplifying his conceptual and interactive approach. Narendra Yadav lives and works in Mumbai and has exhibited his work at Janela.
