Atul Dodiya born in 1959 in Mumbai, is a contemporary artist whose practice spans painting, installation, and assemblage. He studied at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, graduating in 1982, and later at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris (1991–92). His work engages with themes of memory, identity, and socio-political history, often incorporating literary and art historical references.
Dodiya has exhibited widely in India and internationally, with solo presentations at venues such as Galerie Templon, Paris; Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai; the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi; and Vadehra Art Gallery. He has also participated in major international exhibitions including documenta 12 (2007), the Venice Biennale (2005 and 2019), the Kochi–Muziris Biennale (2012), the Asia Pacific Triennale (2012), and the Gwangju Biennale (2008).
His works are included in several public and private collections, including Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery Singapore, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Modern Art, India. He presented his work in the exhibition “Posthumous Dialogues with Francis Newton Souza.”
