Uttai Re Goemkarano: The Youth are Calling

Goa is changing—and the youth must rise to meet the moment. Once a land of lush hills, vibrant communities, and cultural depth, Goa now faces serious threats. From hill-cutting and deforestation to water scarcity and unchecked real estate, the damage runs deep. But amidst this destruction, a new wave of resistance grows—and the youth are at its heart.

In this talk, Shohail Furtado, youth activist and son of Varca, shares how young Goans step forward to defend the land, the culture, and the collective future. Through on-ground strategies and lived experiences, he explores what’s at stake—and how young people across Goa reclaim their agency, speak up at gram sabhas, organize clean-ups, use art as resistance, and hold power to account.

This is a moment to connect, reflect, and imagine how each of us, especially the next generation, shapes the fight for a just and sustainable Goa.

Come listen. Come question. Come act. Because if the youth don’t stand up now, who will?
