The Clean Goa we Desire: Finding a Pathway

Goa’s beautiful landscape is now tarnished by being strewn with waste. It also has the dubious honour of being the highest per capita generator of waste in India. This includes illegally disposing of bags of waste by residents who don’t have or don’t use the collection systems, sacks of waste disposed along the roads by unscrupulous waste management operators, industrial and construction waste, litter from tourists and others. Moreover around 70% of waste is incinerated releasing pollutants into the atmosphere.

This Act for Goa led event with the Museum of Goa will focus on action needed by societies and other communities to ensure a waste-free Goa, so vital for our quality of life.

This is an outcome-focused discussion seeking to make real progress in tackling the waste crisis which is undermining the quality of life for which Goa is renowned. It will involve identifying the critical actions that can and should be taken by key players: panchayats, housing societies and the hospitality sector.
