Onam: A Community Table

Onam is a festival of sharing, cooking, eating, and making space for one another.

This year, the Museum of Goa team is coming together to celebrate Onam in that spirit. We’re preparing a sadhya ourselves and inviting you to join us at the table. This is a community gathering, prepared and hosted by the MOG team, where food becomes a way of coming together.

The sadhya brings together the many dishes traditionally associated with an Onam feast, prepared collectively by members of our team. Each person brings their own familiarity with the food, memories of cooking, and ways of preparing the sadhya. The emphasis is less on the meal as a gastronomic experience and more on what happens when people sit down together to eat.

The meal will be accompanied by a short storytelling session, offering a glimpse into the stories, traditions, and memories surrounding Onam. It is an opportunity to think about how festivals travel with people, how food carries memory, and how communities keep traditions alive by sharing them.

At its heart, this is simply an invitation to gather. Come sit at the community table, eat a meal prepared by the MOG team, listen to a few stories, and celebrate Onam with us.
