Making of Zuari Cable – Stayed Bridge

The Zuari Cable-Stayed Bridge in Goa is one of India’s most striking modern bridges, linking North and South Goa across the Zuari River. Its making is a journey of engineering skill and teamwork, captured beautifully in photographs at every stage.

From deep riverbed foundations to soaring pylons and carefully tensioned steel cables, the bridge deck gradually extends until both halves meet at the center. The process demands precision, coordination, and safety, all reflected in images of massive sections lifted high above the river.

Utpal Chakravarty, a Civil Engineering graduate from Assam Engineering College, leads landmark bridge projects in Goa, including the Mandovi and Zuari cable-stayed bridges. Alongside engineering, he cultivates a passion for construction photography, documenting intricate processes with precision. Since retiring in 2025, he fully dedicates himself to photography.
