Ecology, Food and Knowledge: Exploring the Importance of Place in Environmental Justice and Sustainability’
Co-hosted by the Museum of Goa and the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of California, Santa Cruz.
This is an interdisciplinary programme that brings together scholars, practitioners, local activists, and researchers to explore the interconnections between food systems, ecological knowledge, and cultural practice amidst larger questions of justice and sustainability.
The initiative aims to create a collaborative platform for intersectional dialogue between academic research, knowledge-making and community engagement. Through discussions, screenings, and a day-long workshop, the programme will examine how knowledge about food, agriculture, ecology, and traditional practices is produced, transmitted, and preserved. We particularly seek to foreground questions of gender, labour, class and caste in how we understand these issues, and contribute towards environmental justice and sustainability in our research, writing, filmmaking, activism, pedagogy and public engagement.
