Intercultural Encounters: India – Brazil

In celebration of World Portuguese Language Day on the 5th of May, Intercultural Encounters: Brazil-India – is an initiative organised and presented by the Guimarães Rosa Lectureship Programme in Goa in collaboration with the Consulate General of Brazil in Mumbai and the Museum of Goa. 

Marcelle Feigol Guil, visiting lecturer of Brazilian Studies and Portuguese at Goa University, talking about how Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore inspired one of Brazil’s most prominent Modernist poets, Cecília Meireles, as well as other cultural expressions in the country.

Filmmaker and ethnomusicologist Nalini Elvino de Sousa discussed the presence and influence of Brazilian music in Goa from 1947 to 1961, during which AIR was known as Emissora de Goa, and how Konkani versions of some Brazilian songs have remained popular to this day.
