Ganesha and His Adventures

Concept Note

This exhibition celebrates Ganesha throughout this festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi, one of Goa’s most important festivals, through the eyes and imagination of artist Subodh Kerkar. Hindu mythology has always served as a rich mine of inspiration for many artists. It is full of magic, miracles, and imaginative forms. The combined forms of humans and animals have been present throughout, especially in the many forms of gods and goddesses. It is interesting to see how animals become companions, vehicles, and even take on different forms in Hindu mythology.

Every child in India has grown up with a fascination for Ganesha, and Subodh Kerkar says he was no exception. For the last 15 years, he has spent time making drawings of Ganesha. In his drawings, Ganesha plays football, goes skateboarding with Mooshika, travels around the world, and finds himself in situations far removed from the stories we know him through.

The drawings are made using coloured inks in blue, brown, black, and red, which bring a sense of flow and spontaneity to the drawings.

Subodh Kerkar’s Ganesha is playful, curious, and full of possibility, much like the imagination of a child.
