Tides and Time: Conversations between a father, a daughter, and the sea.
There are men who learn from books, and those who learn from the horizon. At seventeen, when the tide of responsibility rose too soon, Vivek Kandalgoankar left his studies and stepped into the sea. Now seventy-four, he carries within him the rhythms of Goaโs fishing life, a knowledge older than technology, spoken in the dialect of tides, wind, and moonlight.
In Tides and Time, his daughter, photographer and storyteller Assavri Kulkarni, joins him in conversation, a dialogue between memory and documentation, practice and perspective. What begins as a personal exchange between father and daughter widens into a meditation on heritage, ecology, and the fragile continuity of traditional knowledge.
This MOG Sundays conversation drifts between the practical and the poetic, between the salt on one manโs hands and the lens through which his daughter reclaims their shared inheritance. In a world rushing toward speed, they remind us that the moon still governs the sea, and the sea still teaches those who listen.
