A conversation with atmospheric scientist Sarath Guttikunda regarding his work on air pollution.

Sarath Guttikunda, 2022 recipient of the International Award by the American Geophysical Union, will delve into the narratives of the role of information in understanding and managing the problem of air pollution in India and elsewhere.

Sarath Guttikunda is founder/director of Urban Emissions, an independent research institution designed to be a one-stop-shop portal for information on air pollution. To support the National Clean Air Programme in India, the group is openly distributing organized databases for 131 cities for direct use in their policy analysis and dialogue. He established India’s first air quality forecasting program, which provides (freely) short-term (3-day) meteorological and pollution alerts for all the districts everyday. The group has expanded their support to cities outside India, where access to air quality data has been a challenge. He splits his time as an adjunct professor at IIT-Delhi.
