SUMMARY:Film Screening: Cycle Mahesh
DESCRIPTION:Young construction worker Mahesh cycles two thousand kilometres alone to return home during the first Covid lockdown. Now\, he finds himself the subject of a film being made about his epic journey. But what does he get out of the film shoot? \nWinning best first feature at IDFA and being part of New Directors New Films at MoMA\, the film blends fact and fiction as it retells migrant workers’ stories while examining its own gaze. As the shoot nears its end and Mahesh returns to the maze-like site of his construction job\, a portrait emerges of an endearing young man trapped in his circumstances. Will Mahesh escape this vicious cycle of disappointments? \nGame designer and film producer Hina Saiyada introduces the film along with musician Vishesh Kalimero. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #FilmScreening #Fiction #EpicJourney #MigrantWorker #ContructionJob #Circumstance

SUMMARY:Responsible Citizenship: Shaping the Future
DESCRIPTION:Climate change\, pollution\, biodiversity loss\, and the collapse of natural systems are no longer distant threats; they are urgent realities that undermine the wellbeing of both present and future generations. \nResponsible citizenship is essential in building a model of development that is sustainable\, inclusive\, and ethical. Yet\, many who yearn for change feel unsure about how to begin. Speaking out feels intimidating\, and too often\, those who do are dismissed as agitators or troublemakers. \nAt the Museum of Goa\, in collaboration with Act for Goa\, we invite you to join a vital conversation on reclaiming the role of the citizen. Together\, we explore practical strategies—from legal action and peaceful protest to media advocacy\, community participation\, and data-driven decision making—that empower citizens to shape just and sustainable futures. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #talk #ClimateChange #Biodiversity #Pollution #Citizenship #Development #Sustainable #ActforGoa #DecisionMaking

SUMMARY:Goa's Continuing Mining Crisis
DESCRIPTION:Goa’s mining crisis is a stark reminder of systemic failure. The Shah Commission in 2012 exposed the collusion of politicians\, bureaucrats and lessees in illegal mining\, describing it as a “complete collapse of the system.” The Supreme Court in 2018 condemned the “rapacious exploitation” of natural resources within the state. Despite mining tentatively resuming\, the foundations of governance remain broken. Who suffers? Goa\, every Goan — our children\, future generations\, local communities and the natural environment. \nIndia’s National Mineral Policy 2019 envisions minerals as a “shared inheritance\,” with the state acting as trustee. But this principle is far removed from reality. Claude Alvares and Rahul Basu of the Goa Foundation and Goenchi Mati Movement  presents a bold alternative to conventional mining. They argue that if mining activity is endorsed by Goan society\, only then should it be permitted. If allowed\, mining must follow constitutional mandates that ensure economic fairness\, environmental protection and just shares for all. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #MiningCrisis #Failure #IllegalMining #RapaciousExploitation #FutureGeneration #NaturalEnvironment #GoanSociety

SUMMARY:Fugitive Ideas And Sticky Notes
DESCRIPTION:Stories carried by people\, objects\, and vessels crossing the oceans over thousands of years reveal how mixing and exchange—whether accidental\, forced\, or voluntary—shape shared histories across the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. These interactions involve people\, animals\, natural environments\, spiritual practices\, and ideas of friendship and gifting. \nMario D’Souza\, a curator and writer based between New Delhi\, Goa\, and Kochi\, serves as Director of Programmes at the Kochi Biennale Foundation and is part of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale’s curatorial team. He also acts as Co-Artistic Director at HH Art Spaces and was formerly a curator at Khoj\, New Delhi. His work explores themes such as political imaginaries\, dissent\, and systems of truth. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #Stories #Interaction #People #NaturalEnvironment #Goa

SUMMARY:India 2030: A Culture- First View Of The Future
DESCRIPTION:Folk Frequency’s India and the Future series\, launched in 2019\, presents its latest industry report\, offering over a decade of immersive cultural insight\, consumer research\, and strategic foresight. Instead of relying solely on economic forecasts or demographic data\, India 2030 maps the real drivers of transformation—shifts in family structures\, aspirations\, gender roles\, values\, and the evolving local meanings of progress. \nFrom the quiet revolution of women’s autonomy to the rise of regional digital voices\, from the reimagining of caste and class identities to India’s plural modernities\, the report reveals the socio-cultural shifts that drive the digital and data revolutions—not just emerge from them. This is not just about India’s future—it is about the future of the world\, viewed through an Indian lens. \n#MuseumOfGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #Culture #Research #Strategy #EconomicForecast #Progress #QuietRevolution #CasteandClass #Future

SUMMARY:The Women Healers of Goa: Keepers of Ancestral Medicine
DESCRIPTION:For centuries\, before modern medicine is widely accessible\, communities in Goa rely on women healers—knowledgeable\, intuitive\, and deeply connected to nature. These women play a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of their villages through their understanding of herbs\, traditional healing techniques\, and spiritual practices. Their wisdom passes down through generations\, shaped by indigenous knowledge\, Ayurveda\, and influences from Goa’s multicultural past. \nDr. Maryanne Lobo helps us understand the significance of these women healers\, their methods\, and why they are indispensable in an era when hospitals and pharmaceuticals are rare. She also explores how their role evolves over time and what we can learn from their legacy today. \n  \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #ModernMedicine #Knowledge #Nature #Understanding #Health #Wisdom #Herbs #TraditionalHealingTechniques #SpiritualPractices #Ayurveda

SUMMARY:Smooth Roads and Sharp Societies
DESCRIPTION:Road safety is often determined by crash data analysis\, but in regions with limited statistics\, understanding local road-user behavior is crucial. Advocate Moses Pinto highlights Goa’s rapidly evolving traffic landscape\, where an influx of new vehicles meets inadequate infrastructure and reckless driving. \nFrom road etiquette to legal frameworks\, he discusses how better policies and public awareness help curb the rising dangers on Goa’s streets. With vulnerable road users increasingly at risk\, we must rethink our approach before the roads become even more hazardous. \n  \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #RoadSafety #Traffic #RecklessDriving #PublicAwareness #Policies #Risk #InadequateInfrastucture #RisingDangers #Hazardous

SUMMARY:Street Voices & Candlelight Protests
DESCRIPTION:A year ago\, the people of Siolim took to the streets when plans to widen roads threatened the felling of over 134 age-old trees. \nThis unique people’s movement was sparked by the heartless butchering of almost 31 trees that lined up the main street of Siolim. The Candlelight protestors stood their ground for an entire week—until the authorities relented. People’s power of collective action and team work culminated in the Bombay High Court at Goa granting a stay order against trees cutting that stands to-date. \nAvertino Miranda\, convenor of the Goa Green Brigade\, along with his fellow activists\, will take us through their journey of 7-day peaceful revolution\, resilience\, team work\, the strategies they deployed\, and what it truly means to be passionate protectors of Goa’s natural trees heritage. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #People’sMovement #Protests #TeamWork #Action #Heritage #Resilience #Revolution #Journey #Strategies

SUMMARY:The Clean Goa we Desire: Finding a Pathway
DESCRIPTION:Goa’s beautiful landscape is now tarnished by being strewn with waste. It also has the dubious honour of being the highest per capita generator of waste in India. This includes illegally disposing of bags of waste by residents who don’t have or don’t use the collection systems\, sacks of waste disposed along the roads by unscrupulous waste management operators\, industrial and construction waste\, litter from tourists and others. Moreover around 70% of waste is incinerated releasing pollutants into the atmosphere. \nThis Act for Goa led event with the Museum of Goa will focus on action needed by societies and other communities to ensure a waste-free Goa\, so vital for our quality of life. \nThis is an outcome-focused discussion seeking to make real progress in tackling the waste crisis which is undermining the quality of life for which Goa is renowned. It will involve identifying the critical actions that can and should be taken by key players: panchayats\, housing societies and the hospitality sector. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #WasteManagement #Landscape #IllegallyDisponsing #IndustrialWaste #ConstructionWaste #Communities #Crisis #WasteFreeGoa

SUMMARY:Goa: A Journey of Rediscovery
DESCRIPTION:Many dream of escaping urban chaos for Goa’s serene landscapes. Katharina Poggendorf-Kakar and her late husband\, Sudhir Kakar\, did just that\, settling in a peaceful South Goan village 21 years ago. Her book\, Moving to Goa\, explores the state’s scenic hinterlands\, diverse society\, and the hidden history of its colonial past. Since then\, Goa has transformed dramatically. Katharina now questions Goa’s twenty-first-century reality—why do urban escapees recreate city life here\, and how do local and nature-driven communities impact Goa’s well-being and environment? \nKatharina will be in conversation with Sheela Jayawant to discuss the paradoxes of building alternative lives in Goa\, confronting greed and exploitation\, and fostering hope for positive change. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #Hinterland #HiddenHistory #SouthGoanVillage #Exploitation #Environment #DiverseSociety #colonialPast #CityLife #Communities

SUMMARY:Goa's Path to Sustainable and Regenerative Tourism
DESCRIPTION:Goa stands at a crucial moment in its journey toward sustainable and regenerative tourism. Mr. Mahesh Patil\, Chair of the Goa State Pollution Control Board\, environmentalist Parag Rangnekar\, and Nester Brian Fernandes of the Coastal Conservation Foundation\, engage in conversation with Maya de Souza\, Co-Director of Act for Goa and Puja Mitra\, Co-Founder and Co-Director fo Terra conscious\, to explore critical questions: What does a truly Goan model of sustainable tourism look like? Are the state’s planners and panchayats considering Goa’s carrying capacity when permitting new developments? What would an exemplary hotel or homestay\, rooted in regeneration\, encompass? And what can we learn from leading ecotourism nations like Costa Rica and Indonesia? \nThis interactive discussion dives into the changes required from tourists\, the hospitality sector\, and local communities. By working collectively\, Goa can safeguard its natural beauty\, cultural heritage\, and environmental integrity while offering a responsible tourism experience. \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #CulturalHeritage #Ecotourism #HospitalitySector #Development #Environment #Sustainable #NaturalBeauty #LocalCommunities

SUMMARY:Seed Stories: Documentary Film Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In the Niyamgiri mountains of the Eastern Ghats\, ecologist Dr. Debal Deb and his team are conserving endangered heirloom varieties of rice. The Eastern Ghats region is one of the world’s remaining biodiversity hotspots\, where Indigenous communities like the Kondhs hold traditional knowledge of growing crops with folk seeds that have evolved over centuries. However\, this landscape is undergoing irreversible changes with the introduction of genetically modified cotton seeds. ‘Seed Stories’ offers a close-up view of how these changes are reshaping a region and its people\, deeply rooted in ecological knowledge\, and altering their attitudes towards farming\, food\, and ecology. It invites audiences to reflect on the question\, “What is sustainability?” \nFollowing the screening\, Chitrangada Choudhury\, Director of ‘Seed Stories’\, and Claude Alvares from the Goa Foundation engage in a conversation with Yogita Mehra of Green Essentials. \n‘Seed Stories’ (2024). 42 min\, in Odiya\, Kui\, and English\nDirector & Camera: Chitrangada Choudhury\nAssociate Director: Aniket Aga\nEditor: Ajay TG\nSound: Asheesh Pandya\nColourist: Srikanth Kabothu \n
