DESCRIPTION:Mapusa is a historic town that Orijit has loved intimately for over 25 years. However\, in recent years\, this unique place—a cradle of Goan culture\, commerce\, and cottage industry—faces a rapid decline. Orijit believes public art plays a powerful role in awakening community consciousness. \nIn July 2023\, he secures an art grant and the necessary permissions to begin the Mapusa Mogi Project (‘Mogi’ means ‘lover’ in Konkani)\, a community-centric public art mural made entirely in ceramic and glass. The grant allows him to form a team\, rent a studio\, conduct workshops\, interview locals\, and complete the first 8 metres of the mural\, now known as the Centrepiece. \nBut there is still a long way to go. The final mural spans 100 metres. To realise the next phase\, the team is launching a Kickstarter campaign on August 12\, 2025\, with a goal of raising $30\,000–$40\,000 (₹25–35 lakhs). This base amount allows them to complete the next 20 metres of the wall. \nOrijit Sen is a graphic artist\, muralist\, and activist. His work spans public art\, comics\, and design\, and is widely exhibited nationally and internationally. This talk focuses on how Tibetans come to India and how they rebuild their political\, cultural\, and social institutions under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, with immense support from the Indian Government and its people. \nA technologist and a young member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile\, Lobsang Gyatso Sither is part of the generation of Tibetans born in India. He shares glimpses of the “Tibet Exile Story” through his personal experiences — being born stateless\, getting educated within the Indian system\, contributing to his community\, and working towards realizing the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Tibet. \nLobsang Gyatso Sither is a Tibetan born in India and currently serves as a member of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. He is also the Director of Technology at the Tibet Action Institute\, where he addresses cybersecurity challenges faced by the Tibetan community. DESCRIPTION:Goa’s mining crisis is a stark reminder of systemic failure. The Shah Commission in 2012 exposed the collusion of politicians\, bureaucrats and lessees in illegal mining\, describing it as a “complete collapse of the system.” The Supreme Court in 2018 condemned the “rapacious exploitation” of natural resources within the state. Despite mining tentatively resuming\, the foundations of governance remain broken. Who suffers? Goa\, every Goan — our children\, future generations\, local communities and the natural environment. \nIndia’s National Mineral Policy 2019 envisions minerals as a “shared inheritance\,” with the state acting as trustee. But this principle is far removed from reality. Claude Alvares and Rahul Basu of the Goa Foundation and Goenchi Mati Movement  presents a bold alternative to conventional mining. They argue that if mining activity is endorsed by Goan society\, only then should it be permitted.
