SUMMARY:Film Screening and Panel Discussion – Ayena (Mirror)
DESCRIPTION:Ayena (Mirror) is an intimate documentary that follows the lives of acid attack survivors Ritu Saini and Faraha Khan as they rebuild their identities in the aftermath of unimaginable violence. Rather than centring the attack itself\, the film explores friendship\, healing\, resilience\, and the quiet determination of two women reclaiming their lives on their own terms. \nThe screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the film’s protagonists\, Ritu Saini and Faraha Khan; director Siddhant Sarin; and Ashish Shukla\, Director of the Chhanv Foundation. Together\, they will reflect on survival\, justice\, representation\, and the role of cinema in creating empathy and challenging social stigma. \nThis event is supported by The Park\, Calangute and The Lithuanian Embassy.  \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory \nPlease WhatsApp your name to +91 7722089666

SUMMARY:A Sacred Place: Documentary film screening and discussion
DESCRIPTION:This concluding MOG Sunday for June presents a screening of A Sacred Place (2026)\, followed by a conversation between anthropologist and filmmaker Dolly Kikon and journalist Chitrangada Choudhury. \nSet in Makhel\, a Mao Naga village in northern Manipur\, the film explores the intertwined relationships between land\, memory\, spirituality\, and ecology. Through oral histories\, visual ethnography\, and geological storytelling\, A Sacred Place traces the lives of intergenerational storytellers and the sacred salt springs and sandstone monoliths that shape the cosmology and history of the region. \nMakhel—meaning “a sacred place” in the Mao Naga language—becomes the site through which the film asks urgent contemporary questions: can sacredness survive amid ecocide and relentless development? How do Indigenous knowledge systems understand stewardship\, kinship\, and coexistence with the more-than-human world? \nPart of the Lithic Worlds research engagement\, the film foregrounds Indigenous pedagogy and community histories while reflecting on the environmental futures of fragile landscapes. The post-screening conversation will expand on these themes through discussions on storytelling\, ecology\, and belonging in Northeast India. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to +91 7722089666

SUMMARY:Stories of Love\, Equality & Justice: Film screening and discussion
DESCRIPTION:This MOG Sunday begins with a screening of Mahanagar\, Satyajit Ray’s celebrated film exploring gender\, labour\, dignity\, and changing social realities within an urban middle-class household. Though made in 1963\, the film continues to resonate through its nuanced portrayal of care\, independence\, and everyday negotiations within family and society. \nFollowing the screening\, author and social activist Harsh Mander will lead a conversation on storytelling\, empathy\, and justice through cinema. Drawing from his decades-long engagement with questions of inequality\, human rights\, and social reconciliation\, the session will reflect on how films shape ethical imagination and create spaces for emotional and political understanding. \nThe discussion invites audiences to think about cinema not only as artistic expression\, but also as a powerful medium for compassion\, dialogue\, and collective reflection in deeply unequal times. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to +91 7722089666

SUMMARY:A Current Practice in Editorial Design: Rukminee Guha Thakurta & Dolly Sahiar — A Predecessor’s Practice
DESCRIPTION:This MOG Sunday brings together contemporary design practice and historical research through a talk by graphic designer\, writer\, and editor Rukminee Guha Thakurta. Structured in two parts\, the session begins with Rukminee reflecting on her own trajectory as an editorial designer working across art\, photography\, museums\, and independent publishing. \nThe second half revisits the work and legacy of Dolly Sahiar\, the influential designer associated with Marg magazine\, whose contributions shaped the visual language of Indian publishing in the twentieth century. Through archival inquiry and critical reflection\, the session considers questions of authorship\, design histories\, and the often-unseen labour behind editorial production. \nDrawing from her extensive experience collaborating with artists\, publishers\, and institutions internationally\, Rukminee will also speak about publication-making as a space where art\, research\, and storytelling intersect. The talk offers an opportunity to engage with editorial design not simply as a technical discipline\, but as a cultural and intellectual practice. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to +91 7722089666

SUMMARY:Film Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us at MOG Sundays amidst films and conversation that bring us closer to Goa’s wetlands\, mangroves\, and the many lives they sustain. We begin with ‘Kharvan’\, a film that explores the fragile Khazan ecosystems of Goa and the coexistence between smooth-coated otters\, local communities\, and a landscape shaped over centuries. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers Payal Kakkar\, Nitya Navelkar and Doel Trivedy\, reflecting on ecology\, storytelling\, conservation\, and the futures we imagine for these environments. \nThe session concludes with ‘Requiem of a Mangrove Forest’\, an award-winning documentary that traces the gradual destruction of Goa’s mangrove forests through haunting and poetic imagery. This documentary chronicles the subsequent death of two mangrove forests at Merces and Corlim in Goa\, over a period of four years (2021-2024)\, attributing the destruction to climate change\, salinity shifts\, dam flooding\, and illegal waste disposal. The narrative adopts a unique “non-human” perspective\, viewing the forest as a collective entity connected by its root and mycelial network\, which is tragically severed by its death. \nTogether\, the films invite us to think about our relationship with the natural world\, the stories embedded within these ecosystems\, and the urgent need to care for them. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to +91 7722089666

SUMMARY:Gerald and Luisa: Love\, Liberation\, and the making of a Free Goa
DESCRIPTION:This presentation weaves together personal history and larger political narratives to explore Goa’s journey toward liberation. Through the stories of Gerald and Luisa\, the session reflects on the intimate dimensions of a historical moment often understood in broader terms. Speaker Lara Pereira Naique brings a unique perspective shaped by her engagement with Goan history\, culture\, and storytelling\, as well as her personal connection to archival and literary work.  \nThe talk will examine how individual lives intersect with movements for freedom\, and how memory\, identity\, and place are preserved through storytelling. By tracing these narratives\, the session invites audiences to reconsider Goa’s past not just as a political milestone but as a collection of lived experiences shaped by courage\, relationships\, and cultural continuity. It offers a thoughtful look at how history is remembered and retold across generations. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory \nPlease WhatsApp your name to + 91 7722089666

SUMMARY:Fish Curry Rice: The Goan Recipe for Life
DESCRIPTION:This MOG Sunday gathers around a book that has outlived trends\, governments\, and forgetting—a book that has watched Goa change\, and refused to look away. \nFish Curry and Rice\, edited by Claude Alvares\, is Goa speaking for itself. SUMMARY:Holding Three Things Together: Coffee\, Forests\, and Livelihoods
DESCRIPTION:Coffee is often experienced as a simple\, everyday ritual\, but its journey begins in complex landscapes where ecology\, labour\, and economy intersect. In this session\, Arshiya Bose of Black Baza Coffee reflects on nearly a decade of working closely with smallholder and indigenous coffee producers across India. The talk will explore what it truly means to build a business that attempts to sustain three interdependent systems—coffee cultivation\, forest ecosystems\, and community livelihoods.  \nThrough on-ground insights\, Arshiya will unpack the difficult negotiations\, compromises\, and ethical considerations that shape such work. The session will also consider the broader implications of conscious consumption and how our daily choices connect to fragile environments and rural economies. This is an opportunity to look beyond the cup and engage with the layered realities of producing coffee responsibly in today’s world. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory \nPlease WhatsApp your name to + 91 7722089666

SUMMARY:On The Beauty of Canacona
DESCRIPTION:Activist Ramesh Gauns reflects on the cultural\, ecological\, and social landscapes of Canacona\, drawing from decades of grassroots work and public engagement. \nA lifelong activist\, Gauns has been associated with the Rashtra Seva Dal since 1969—an organisation committed to values of democracy\, secularism\, socialism\, and fraternity\, with roots in India’s freedom struggle and Goa’s liberation movement. SUMMARY:The Mahabharata’s Feminine Force: How Its Women Drive the Story
DESCRIPTION:The Mahabharata\, often regarded as one of the greatest epics in narrative history\, is typically seen as a tale of heroic men—warriors who take solemn vows\, make immense sacrifices\, and fight valiantly for their principles. Within this framework\, women are frequently perceived as secondary figures—victims of circumstance\, dependent on male agency\, and at times portrayed as the source of conflict. \nHowever\, a closer and more critical reading challenges this patriarchal lens. The true driving force of the Mahabharata emerges from its women. Despite enduring injustice and marginalisation\, it is their choices\, decisions\, and actions that profoundly shape the course of the epic. Their presence injects the narrative with emotional depth and enduring relevance. \nFrom Kunti and Draupadi to Ganga\, Satyavati\, and Amba—along with Ambika\, Ambalika\, Gandhari\, and Hidimba—the epic is propelled forward by these powerful figures. Through an exploration of their journeys\, Anjum repositions them not as passive participants but as central forces that determine the story’s direction. \nAnjum Rajabali is a noted screenwriter and script mentor\, known for films such as Drohkaal\, Ghulam\, The Legend of Bhagat Singh\, and Raajneeti. He has been teaching screenwriting since 2006 at FTII Pune and Whistling Woods\, Mumbai. A senior activist with the Screenwriters Association (SWA)\, he is also actively involved in advocating for writers’ rights. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to + 91 7722089666 \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSundays #History #Mahabharata #Scarifice #Fight #Critical #Choice #Injustice #Conflict #Film #Screenwriting

SUMMARY:Love Tales
DESCRIPTION:The conversation explores the world of artist Savia Viegas\, a storyteller who moves between books\, embroidery\, and memory. Growing up in the village of Carmona\, Savia learns early how small\, everyday moments carry powerful stories. Her novels\, Let Me Tell You About Quinta and Tales from the Attic\, explore themes of family\, migration\, and the hidden sides of Goan life—the stories that often remain untold. \nThe discussion focuses on her exhibition\, “Love Tales\,” where hand-stitched embroidery on upcycled denim brings stories of love\, desire\, and daily life from Goa’s oral traditions into view. As a fellow storyteller\, Leila Badyari guides the conversation\, exploring how Savia blends text\, image\, and craft to give shape to emotions and memories\, and how these forms allow community histories—often quietly preserved—to surface in compelling ways. \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to + 91 7722089666 \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Conversation #Storyteller #Books #Embroidery #Moments #Novels #GoanLife #LoveTales #Desire #Traditions #Emotions #Memories #HiddenSide

SUMMARY:Exclusive Living and the Transformation of Goa's Villages
DESCRIPTION:At MOG Sunday\, architect Evanthika Pereira asks: What does exclusivity look like in built form? What happens when houses disconnect from local ecology and social networks? And how can architecture respond to this growing separation? \nBased on a study tracing settlement change from the late 90s to 2025 in Socorro\, the third-largest village of Bardez taluka\, the research maps how these forms of exclusive living alter land patterns\, mobility\, and everyday spatial relationships. \nThe talk ultimately asks a simple but urgent question: what kind of Goa are we building? \nFree Entry | RSVP compulsory \nPlease WhatsApp your name to +91 7722089666 \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #Architecture #Houses #Ecology #Disconnect #Local #Settlement #Research #Mobility #SpatialRelationship

SUMMARY:The anthology of Goan Appetites
DESCRIPTION:Appetite stands as a heartfelt tribute to Goa — its salt-washed shores\, spice-filled air\, rich cuisine\, and the unquenchable appetite that beats at the core of the land and its people. \nThe collection moves from stories of late-night feasts going wrong in busy family living rooms\, to poems that trace desire and longing\, and essays that reflect on diaspora and in-migration. Each piece captures the feeling of true yearning. The anthology shifts smoothly between the intimate and the expansive — from the salty tang of the sea and the delicate twang of a rebec to the inner worlds of complex characters grappling with love\, loss\, sexuality\, and identity. \nGoa Writers invite readers to savour not just the stories\, but also the world that brings them to life. \nree Entry \nRSVP is compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to 7722089666 \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #Appetite #Goa #RichCuisine #Land #People #Feast #Desire #Longing #Migration #Characters #Love #Loss #Sexuality #Identity #Stories

SUMMARY:A- Political Act: How Memes are becoming India's Digital Protest Art
DESCRIPTION:The interactive presentation explores how memes function as a form of subversive art\, turning viral trends into acts of resistance. Memes break down the distinction between creator and audience\, transforming consumers into co-creators. \nIt traces the rise of meme culture from simple internet jokes to a vital form of digital communication. In India\, where humour and satire often serve as tools for political dissent\, memes acquire new meaning. Unlike traditional political cartoons\, meme creation demands nothing more than a smartphone\, sharp wit\, and an understanding of internet culture. \nKabiran is a content creator and writer who experiments with humour and satire. Through A-political Act\, she works to create a participatory digital archive that examines how memes democratise dissent\, challenge propaganda\, and reshape political engagement in the digital age. \nFree Entry \nRSVP is compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to 7722089666 \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGSunday #Talk #Memes #SubversiveArt #Creator #Audience #Culture #Jokes #Communication #PoliticalCartoons #Smartphone #Writer #Humour #Satire
