SUMMARY:A Tribute to Madhav Gadgil
DESCRIPTION:Gadgil speaks for nature by listening to it—to forests\, rivers\, hills\, and villages as living presences. He reminds us that ecology is inseparable from history\, politics\, and memory\, and that science without ethics forgets what truly matters. \nThis Sunday evening\, as we come together in remembrance\, we return to the questions Prof. Madhav Gadgil\, the people’s scientist\, teaches us to ask. \nFrom Goa and the Western Ghats to across India\, his work stands against extraction in the name of progress\, and for a democracy rooted in the land and its people. \nThis tribute meeting is organised by Goa Foundation and the Museum of Goa\, not just to honour his life\, but to carry forward the responsibility he leaves us with. \nOpen to All | Free Entry \nRSVP is compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to 7722089666 to register

SUMMARY:Gail & Bharat
DESCRIPTION:Experience a special screening at MOG of Gail & Bharat\, a powerful documentary on the life and work of US-born Indian sociologist and Dalit rights activist Prof. Gail Omvedt (1941–2021) and her partner\, activist Dr. Bharat Patankar. \nThe film moves away from academic jargon and grounds itself in their shared personal life\, while tracing the larger currents of India’s anti-caste and socio-political movements that shape their work. \nIn a landscape where anti-caste struggles remain insufficiently documented\, Gail & Bharat serves as a vital archive for scholars\, students\, and activists. \nThe screening is followed by a conversation with Dalit–Buddhist filmmaker Somnath Waghmare. The film screens widely across India\, the UK\, and Europe\, sustaining crucial conversations on caste\, memory\, and resistance. \nThis event was made possible with the support of our hospitality partner The Park Hotel\, Calangute. \nFree Entry | Limited Seats \nRSVP is compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to 7722089666 to register \n#MuseumofGoa #MOGEvents #Screening #Documentary #Sociologist #DalitRights #Activist #Film #Anti-Caste #Socio-Political

SUMMARY:Goa in Film
DESCRIPTION:In its 10th year\, the Museum of Goa is proud to host ‘Goa in Film’\, a two-day Konkani Film Marathon\, curated by award-winning director Bardroy Barretto. \nGoa has always been a place where faith\, folklore\, and everyday life meet\, and where art becomes the bridge between them. This celebration honours that spirit. Through these films\, Konkani becomes more than a language\, it becomes a landscape. What is spoken carries into gesture\, silence\, emotion\, and light. \nAlongside the current exhibition\, The Festivals of Goa\, which explores the rituals\, intensity\, and contradictions that shape the Goan experience\, Goa in Film offers a contemporary lens. It highlights how Goans see themselves today and the stories they feel compelled to tell\, stories that are personal\, urgent\, and deeply local. \n🗓️ Dates: December 5th & 6th\, 2025\n📍 Venue: Museum of Goa\, Pilerne \nFREE FOR ALL \nFOR MORE DETAILS \nRSVP compulsory\nWhatsapp or call 7722089666 today!

SUMMARY:Humans in the Loop
DESCRIPTION:‘Humans In The Loop‘ essays the story of an indigenous woman who begins interacting with AI while working in a remote data centre in Jharkhand. \nThe film is based on a phenomenon happening in the indigenous regions of India\, where tech companies have established offices for “data labelling.” It is a process that involves meta-tagging thousands of images and videos to teach an algorithm to recognise and differentiate between objects—essentially\, becoming the first step in machine learning. \nThe outsourcing of this labour to rural areas is driven by the availability of cheap labour for this task. However\, the intersection between indigenous communities and AI presents an opportunity to explore a larger narrative about humanity’s future. The work of data labelling mirrors the process of parenting\, where the labourer takes on the role of a parent and AI assumes that of a child. This opens up a conversation: Is AI (the child) a blank slate\, or does it inherit the biases of its human creators? \nThe film was awarded the prestigious FIPRESCI Award for Best Feature Film (International Critics’ Guild Award)\, 2025\, jointly shared with ‘All We Imagine As Light’ \nFree Entry | Limited Seats \nRSVP is compulsory\nPlease WhatsApp your name to 7722089666 to register

SUMMARY:A Place with the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:A Place with the Pigs: A Riveting Theatrical Experience \nAthol Fugard’s gripping play\, A Place with the Pigs\, is set to take the stage once again\, bringing to life the absurd yet poignant tale of a Russian soldier’s self-imposed exile. Directed by the acclaimed Dnyanesh Moghe\, this production promises to be an intense exploration of guilt\, redemption\, and the human longing for freedom. \nInspired by a bizarre yet true story\, A Place with the Pigs follows Pavel Ivanovitch\, a Russian deserter from World War II who spends decades hiding in his pigsty to avoid punishment. The setting—a damp\, claustrophobic sty—becomes a metaphor for the oppressive weight of his guilt and fear. The play navigates themes of personal dignity\, the psychological impact of war\, and the desperate quest for societal acceptance\, all within a runtime of 2 hours. \nMeet the Director: Dnyanesh Moghe \nDnyanesh Moghe\, a multi-faceted theater and film artist\, brings his wealth of experience to this production. A graduate of Kala Academy and St. Xavier’s Mumbai\, Moghe has an impressive portfolio that spans acting\, directing\, and cinematography. His directorial credits include Shantata! Court Chalu Ahe\, Lights Out\, Sageena Mahato\, and even a previous adaptation of A Place with the Pigs (Par Prasthan). SUMMARY:Raza - MOG - Souza Dialogues: Conversations in Contemporary Indian Art
DESCRIPTION:Raza – MOG – Souza Dialogues: Conversations in Contemporary Indian Art\nThe Raza–MOG–Souza Dialogues was conceived as a dynamic two-day symposium that brought together some of the most influential voices shaping contemporary Indian art today. The event took place on February 23–24\, 2019 and was hosted by the MOG Foundation in partnership with the Raza Foundation\, the initiative created a rare and meaningful space where practitioners\, thinkers\, and audiences could come together\, not just to listen\, but to engage\, question\, and reflect. \nAt its core\, the symposium embraced conversation as a creative act. It encouraged an environment where disciplines overlapped\, hierarchies dissolved\, and diverse perspectives could coexist\, making room for new ideas to emerge organically. \nThe Raza Foundation\, established by the eminent modernist S.H. Raza\, has long been committed to supporting artistic practice through fellowships\, research\, and intellectual exchange. Its philosophy rests on the belief that artistic success gains significance when shared with a wider community. The MOG Foundation extends this ethos through its focus on inclusivity\, public engagement\, and social transformation through art. Together\, the two institutions envisioned the Dialogues as a platform that not only reflects contemporary practices but actively shapes them. \nConcept & Curatorial Approach \nCurated as a series of interlinked conversations\, the symposium unfolded through carefully structured sessions that allowed for both depth and openness. Each dialogue was designed to bring together practitioners from different fields\, encouraging cross-pollination of ideas and fostering unexpected connections. Audiences were not passive spectators but active participants\, invited to engage with questions that extended beyond the sessions themselves. \nPurpose & Vision \nThe Dialogues were guided by a clear and layered vision: \n\nTo democratize access to contemporary art discourse by bringing conversations into public space\nTo create a platform for critical thinking and meaningful engagement across disciplines\nTo bridge generational gaps by connecting established practitioners with emerging artists and students\nTo examine the social\, cultural\, and political contexts within which art is produced and experienced\nTo foreground the role of institutions in shaping\, supporting\, and sustaining artistic ecosystems\n\nDialogues Across Disciplines \nAcross two days\, the symposium unfolded as a series of compelling exchanges that traversed visual art\, design\, literature\, and institutional practice. Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks and graphic novelist and artist Orijit Sen explored how visual languages evolve across mediums\, discussing the intersections of design\, storytelling\, and cultural memory. Their conversation reflected on how aesthetics are shaped not only by trends but by histories\, identities\, and lived experiences. \nCultural practitioners Arundhati Ghosh\, Suresh Jayaram\, and Subodh Kerkar turned the focus toward institutions\, questioning their responsibilities\, limitations\, and potential. Their dialogue examined how spaces for art are built\, sustained\, and made accessible\, while also addressing the challenges of funding\, autonomy\, and public engagement. \nIn a deeply rooted exploration of language and identity\, poet Hemant Divate and writer Damodar Mauzo reflected on the power of regional literature. Their conversation emphasized the importance of linguistic diversity in shaping cultural narratives and resisting homogenization in an increasingly globalized world. The final set of dialogues brought together poet and novelist Jeet Thayil and curator-poet Sabitha Satchi\, who explored the fluid boundaries between literature\, music\, and performance. Their exchange highlighted how artistic forms continuously intersect\, how poetry can become performance\, how music can inform narrative\, and how these overlaps create new modes of expression. \n \nAudience & Engagement\nA defining strength of the Raza–MOG–Souza Dialogues was its ability to draw a diverse and engaged audience. Artists\, students\, writers\, designers\, and members of the public came together in a shared space of curiosity and learning. For young practitioners and students\, the symposium offered a rare opportunity to encounter contemporary artistic thought outside formal academic frameworks. For established professionals\, it created space for reflection\, exchange\, and renewed dialogue. This intersection of audiences contributed to the energy and openness that defined the event. \nShaping Contemporary Discourse \nThe impact of the Dialogues extended well beyond the two-day format. By shifting conversations from closed circles into accessible public forums\, the symposium challenged the exclusivity often associated with contemporary art discourse. The emphasis on dialogue encouraged participants to think beyond their own practices\, opening up new ways of understanding and creating. \nImportantly\, the event reinforced Goa’s growing cultural presence within India’s contemporary art landscape. Taking place during the peak art season\, alongside major events such as the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and the India Art Fair\, the Dialogues positioned the region as an active site of critical engagement and artistic exchange. \nContinuing the Conversation \nThe Raza–MOG–Souza Dialogues remain an evolving idea rather than a singular event. They stand as a reminder that art is not created in isolation\, it is shaped through conversation\, collaboration\, and constant questioning. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives\, the initiative continues to inspire new dialogues\, new connections\, and new ways of thinking about contemporary art and its role in society.
