About Manab Das
An acclaimed Sitar player and former principal of Goa College of Music, Manab Das has a Master’s degree in Sitar from the famous Visva Bharati University, Satiniketan, West Bengal set up by the Noble-Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore. He has been associated to the Department of Art & Culture, Goa as the Committee Member for three years and Kala Academy Goa as the Advisory Committee Member for two years.
Born in Calcutta, he started his preliminary Sitar training at the tender age of six under the guidance of Late Ustad Ali Ahmed Khan, a renowned sitarist. Later he became a disciple of Late Pandit Indranil Bhattacharya
He was awarded the National Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India (1988-1990) along with several other awards. He has to his credit two Audio CD releases; one based on Indian Classical Music and the other on Fusion Music (Indian-Western Classical Music), in the year 2000. He also had the unique distinction to perform live at a music concert at Raj Bhavan- Goa, organized in honor of Ex-Prime Minister of India, Hon’ble Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee.
He has performed in a series of concerts with Bagpiper players across Scotland. He has also given a number of lecture demonstrations and performances in U.K and Germany.
